Method and Disclaimer

These method notes explain the Product ID life cycle assessment calculations, including the assumptions behind the impact estimates.

Per garment

Calculated for one representative garment: size M for adult styles and size 134/146 for children's styles.

Database based

Uses data sourced from the Ecoinvent Database.

Method notes

Calculated according to ISO 14040, but not verified.

Our LCA calculations are

  • Based on data sourced from the Ecoinvent Database. The database is updated regularly, but these calculations are not currently adjusted after each update.
  • Exclusive of packaging and hangtags.
  • Based on the production of one representative garment: size M for adult styles and size 134/146 for children's styles.
  • Calculated according to ISO 14040, but not independently verified.
  • Calculated using the average kWh per country, not per production facility.
  • The number of PET bottles per garment is an estimate based on 12 grams per 550 ml bottle, including losses during the recycling process.

Transportation

  • Includes the distance from each manufacturer (spinning, weaving/knitting, dyeing, cutting, and sewing) to the local harbour by truck.
  • Includes the distance between harbours by ship.
  • Does not specify the type of truck or ship used.
  • Is calculated up to the warehouse in Aarschot, Belgium.
  • Does not include transportation related to trim manufacturing.
